Carpet Types

There are so many different carpet types on the market that it is not surprising how much longer it takes most shoppers to find that one kind they simply fall in love with. Yet even though these love relationships do happen, there are some types of carpets where the love must remain unrequited if small children are in the house.

Among those types of carpet is first and foremost the shag carpet. Types or colors vary, from long to medium yarn and from burnt orange to avocado green. Perhaps you like the retro look or maybe you simply miss using a rake indoors, but the fact of the matter dictates that the number one carpet to avoid is the shag. Just think of all the little cheerios, toy soldiers, cookies, animal crackers, and other food items will be lost in the weaves. While this may be the best type of carpet for your retro inspired living room, it is among the worst carpet types for your children’s rooms. You will not be able to clean up thoroughly enough to keep the room sanitary, and problems will soon ensue.

Other carpet types/colors to be avoided are velvet or Saxony carpet types in white, black, or light blues. The types of carpet padding velvet carpeting requires is not easily cleaned, and if a spill occurs, there will be precious little you can do to fix it. Similarly, since very footstep is seen, this kind of elegant carpeting is better used in a room with very little foot traffic and even less play action.

The types of carpet padding you will want to avoid are also obvious: anything carpet padding types that are less than sturdy, that may wear flat quickly, or that do not react well to the different carpet cleaning types you will employ are best avoided. Furthermore, types of carpet padding for hydronic floor coverings should be avoided since the kinds of carpets usually associated with this carpet padding type will not fare well in a child’s room.

Last but not least, avoid Tredmore carpet pad types if they are attached to the carpet types you are thinking of having installed in your child’s room. There may be times when you need to discreetly replace a piece of the carpet - types that work best are the ones made from nylon – if a particularly nasty stain will not budge and the spot is just not in the right place for an area rug. Similarly, the carpet padding type you put in your child’s room should not be so cheap that it will not withstand a lot of use; after all, the goal is for your child to fight his toy soldier battles in his room, not on your shag or plush carpeting!
